Bad luck doesn’t explain it. It’s a pattern, and patterns can be fixed.
It’s not random
You bend down to grab a sock. Your back grabs you instead. A few rough days follow. It settles. You forget about it.
Three months later, it happens again.
Most people call that bad luck. It usually isn’t.
Recurring low back pain tends to follow a pattern. The sock didn’t cause it. The sock was the last straw for a back that had been taking the same stress, the same way, for months.
Here’s the upside. A pattern can be found. And once you can see it, you can work on it.
Where the pattern usually starts
Your low back is rarely the whole story. It’s often where the problem shows up, not where it starts.
Common contributors:
- Stiff hips. When your hips don’t rotate or extend well, your low back makes up the difference. It moves more than it should, over and over, every day.
- A trunk that can’t keep up. The muscles around your spine and core are there to stabilize you. When they lack the strength or endurance, other tissues take the load.
- Long hours sitting. Desk, car, couch. Hours in a chair tighten the front of your hips and leave your back holding one position all day. More on desk work and back pain.
- How you move. The way you bend, lift, twist, and stand. Habits you don’t notice because you’ve done them for years.
Notice that none of these are dramatic. No single moment. Just small loads, repeated thousands of times, until one ordinary movement tips it over.
Any one of these can play a part. Usually it’s a combination. And it’s different for every person, which is why a generic stretch you found online rarely settles it.
Why rest alone doesn’t solve it
When your back flares, easing off makes sense. The pain calms down. You feel better.
But feeling better and being fixed are not the same thing.
Rest lets irritated tissue settle. It doesn’t change the hip that won’t move. It doesn’t build the trunk that can’t brace. It doesn’t undo the eight hours you sat yesterday, or the eight you’ll sit tomorrow.
So the pain fades. The pattern stays. The next flare is already on its way.
Each round can also teach you to move a little more carefully. You stop bending all the way. You twist less. You brace without meaning to. It feels like protection, but over time it can leave you stiffer and weaker, which is exactly the setup for the next round of low back pain.
That’s also why chasing the sore spot only gets you so far. Treating where it hurts can bring relief, and relief matters. Lasting change usually means dealing with what’s feeding it.
When it travels down the leg
Some back pain doesn’t stay in the back. If you feel pain, tingling, or numbness running into your buttock or down your leg, it may be sciatica, irritation along the nerve that runs from your low back down the leg.
Not every leg pain is that, and not every case comes from the same source. It deserves a proper exam so you know what you’re actually dealing with.
Know the red flags, too. Numbness in the groin, loss of bladder or bowel control, or new weakness in your legs means emergency care. Today. Not a chiropractor, and not tomorrow.
How a chiropractor in Montrose finds your pattern
At Built 2 Move Chiropractic, we don’t start with your back. We start with how you move.
The first visit is a full workup. History, movement exam, and X rays. We look at how your hips, spine, and trunk work together, not just where it hurts. We ask about your days, too. How long you sit. How you train. What you lift, at work and at home.
You get a plan with a beginning, a middle, and an end. You’ll know what we’re working on and why. The goal isn’t to keep you coming back. It’s to help you understand your pattern and take ownership of it. When the plan is done, maintenance afterward is your choice.
Movement is personal here. Dr. Armen tore his ACL twice and came back both times. He knows what it takes to rebuild how a body moves, because he’s had to do it himself. He’s a TPI Certified Medical Expert, Level 3, and Webster Certified.
Getting started is simple. Most new patients are seen the same week, often within a day or two. No referral needed. We don’t bill insurance. HSA and FSA are welcome, and we can give you a superbill on request.
It’s close. We’re at 3702 Park Pl., Montrose, CA 91020, about ten minutes up the 2 from most of Glendale. Parking is on site.
