What the Webster Technique does, and why so many moms swear by it.
The short answer
You are growing a person. Your body is changing every week. It makes sense to ask questions before anyone adjusts your spine.
Here is the short answer. Chiropractic care is generally considered a safe option during pregnancy when it comes from a provider trained in prenatal care. That training matters. Pregnancy changes how you should be positioned, how much force is used, and what gets adjusted.
Seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy should never replace your OB or midwife. It works alongside them. Tell them you are coming in. Tell us what they have told you. Good care is a team.
What changes in your body
Pregnancy asks a lot of your frame. A few changes show up for almost every mom in some way.
- Your body makes a hormone called relaxin. It loosens ligaments so your pelvis can make room for birth. Looser ligaments can also leave joints feeling less stable.
- Your center of gravity moves forward as your belly grows. Your low back often arches more to keep you upright.
- Your load goes up week by week. Your hips, pelvis and low back carry it.
- Sleep gets harder. Long nights on one side can leave you stiff in the morning.
None of this means something is wrong. It means your body is doing its job. But it can show up as a low back ache, pressure near the tailbone, pain at the front of the pelvis, or a hip that never quite settles. Those are the moments many moms start looking for a prenatal chiropractor.
What the Webster Technique actually is
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed for pregnancy. The focus is your pelvis. The goal is balance. That means checking how your sacrum and pelvis are moving, then gently adjusting where things are restricted.
That is it. It is an adjustment for mom’s pelvis.
You may have read online that Webster turns babies. It is not a way to turn a baby, and nobody should promise you that. It is not a promise of a shorter labor either. What it does is address how your pelvis is moving while your body changes. If anyone tells you it does more than that, ask more questions.
Dr. Armen is Webster Certified through the ICPA, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. That means he trained in this specific analysis, not just in general adjusting. You can read more on our Webster Technique page.
Why so many moms seek it out
Here is why it has a following. No hype, just the reasons.
It is built for pregnancy. Not adapted. Not improvised. The analysis, the positioning and the force all start from the fact that you are pregnant.
It is gentle. Prenatal care here is low force. No twisting. No pressure on the belly. You are positioned so you stay comfortable and your belly stays protected, with support where you need it.
It works in any trimester. You do not have to wait for the third trimester to come in. Some moms start early because they had back trouble before pregnancy. Others come in later, when the load gets real. Either is fine.
And it comes with a plan. You know what you are doing and why. A plan here has a beginning, a middle and an end. After that, continuing is your choice.
What a prenatal visit looks like
Your first visit starts with a conversation. We want your health history, your pregnancy so far, what your OB or midwife has said, and what you are feeling now. Then comes a movement exam. How you stand, how you walk, how your pelvis and low back move.
We don’t take X rays during pregnancy.
If prenatal care is a good fit, you get adjusted gently, in a position that keeps you comfortable. If something you tell us needs your OB or midwife first, we will say so and send you back to them. That is part of doing this right.
A few practical things:
- No referral needed. Most new patients are seen the same week, often within a day or two.
- We do not bill insurance. HSA and FSA cards are welcome, and we can give you a superbill on request.
- We are at 3702 Park Pl. in Montrose, about ten minutes up the 2 from most of Glendale. Parking is on site, so you are not circling the block at 32 weeks.
You can see more on our pregnancy care page.
Some symptoms are not a chiropractic question at all. Call your OB or midwife right away, or get emergency care, if you have any of these:
- Bleeding or fluid leaking
- Severe or sudden pain in your belly or back
- Sudden swelling in your face, hands or legs
- A headache that will not quit, or changes in your vision
- Fewer baby movements than normal
When in doubt, call them. Every time.
Your move
You do not have to just push through. If your back, hips or pelvis are talking to you, get them looked at by someone trained for pregnancy. Moms come to us from all over Montrose and Glendale for exactly this.
